SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Democratic Caucus Chair and Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur (D-Hollywood) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6–3 decision in Mahmoud v.

SB 132, a budget trailer bill that expands the California Film and Television Tax Credit Program from  $330 million to $750 million has passed the Legislature and now heads to the Governor’s desk.

As we monitor the progress of a potential ceasefire between Israel and Iran—following two weeks of intense bilateral bombardment as well as direct U.S. involvement—my thoughts remain with the countless lives affected, both abroad and here at home. For many in Assembly District 51, these events are not distant headlines.

I'm horrified to learn that ICE officers have entered Assembly District 51, spreading fear and chaos among members of our community. This morning, I was shown videos and photos of what appears to be ICE agents detaining street vendors near the corner of St. Andrews Place and De Longpre Avenue, by the Hollywood Home Depot. We cannot accept this as our new reality.

I am furious and deeply disturbed to learn of the multiple ICE raids taking place across Los Angeles and of the detention of my friend David Huerta, President of SEIU California and USWW.

David has always been a strong advocate for immigrants and workers throughout California, and like all the protesters detained, does not deserve to be treated so inhumanely.
