As we monitor the progress of a potential ceasefire between Israel and Iran—following two weeks of intense bilateral bombardment as well as direct U.S. involvement—my thoughts remain with the countless lives affected, both abroad and here at home. For many in Assembly District 51, these events are not distant headlines. They are deeply personal, with loved ones in harm's way and communities left to process fear, heartbreak, and uncertainty.
Our district is home to vibrant Israeli- and Iranian-American communities, many with deep historical and familial ties to the region. For many in the Iranian-American community, they or their immediate family members risked their lives to escape the oppressive regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran. For many in the Israeli-American community, they or their loved ones have endured war and loss and continue to hope for a lasting peace that ensures Israel's safety and security.
To the Iranian- and Israeli-American members of our California community: you are seen, you are heard, and you are not alone. We must continue to lean on one another—and hold fast to the hope of a more peaceful future, while reaffirming our shared commitment to human rights, democracy, and coexistence.
May we also keep in our hearts and minds the brave service members stationed abroad, especially in moments of uncertainty and transition.
I stand in solidarity with all who are mourning, anxious, and longing for peace.
Woman. Life. Freedom.
