SACRAMENTO – Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair Rick Chavez Zbur (D-Hollywood) has named Tami Martin as his new permanent Chief of Staff, effective Monday, September 18.
Martin has served as Assemblymember Zbur's Legislative Director in his Capitol office since he was sworn in on December 5, 2022. She has had a distinguished career advocating for policy relating to civil rights and social justice at Equality California, where she worked for six and a half years, most recently as Legislative Director, and previously served as Vice President of the Capitol LGBTQ Association. She holds a bachelor's degree in Government from Dartmouth College and both a law degree and a master's degree in Law and Government from American University Washington College of Law.
Martin succeeds Bob Hartnagel, who transitioned into a new temporary role with Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas on September 18, assuming the duties of his Deputy Chief of Staff Alicia Isaacs-Lee, while she is out on maternity leave through early February 2024. Hartnagel brought decades of experience in the Legislature to Assemblymember Zbur's team, where he assisted the freshman lawmaker in establishing his new office and successfully completing his first legislative cycle.
"I have worked with Tami Martin professionally for nearly a decade, and I have full confidence in her ability to lead and excel as my next Chief of Staff," said Assemblymember Zbur. "From her work protecting LGBTQ+ students, safeguarding reproductive freedom, and advancing critical civil rights legislation at Equality California to her effective leadership in our office over the last 10 months as Legislative Director, Tami has proven her ability to build the coalitions necessary to deliver results for our communities. I know she will serve the people of the Fifty- First District well."
Zbur added, "Bob Hartnagel has been a trusted advisor, bringing his immense professionalism, experience, and knowledge to my team. I want to thank him for helping me establish my office and for his crucial contributions to an incredibly successful first legislative session. Having seen him in action, I know he will be a great asset to the Speaker and the people of the state of California, and I congratulate him on his new role."
Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur serves as the Democratic Caucus Chair for the California State Assembly and represents the 51st Assembly District, including Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood, Santa Monica, and portions of Los Angeles.
