Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur Joins CA Legislative Jewish Caucus

Jewish Caucus advocates for top Jewish community priorities, seeks to advance tikkun olam agenda to uplift vulnerable Californians of all backgrounds

SACRAMENTO, CA — Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur announced today that he has joined the California Legislative Jewish Caucus as an Associate Member for the 2023-2024 Legislative Session.

The Jewish Caucus includes 18 members of the California Legislature who self-identify as Jews, as well as Associate Members who have strong personal or familial connection to the Jewish community.

Through research by a family member, Assemblymember Zbur discovered the he is the descendent of Jewish Conversos, who arrived in what is now New Mexico in the 1500s, fleeing Spanish persecution for their heritage.

"I am excited to join the Legislative Jewish Caucus and to represent and connect with the Jewish community in the 51st District," said Assemblymember Zbur, "As part of the Jewish Caucus, I will work to empower and strengthen the Jewish voice for justice, equality, and progress, and serve as a resource and advocate on behalf of the professional, educational, social, public safety, political, and cultural concerns of the Jewish community."

The Jewish Caucus is a voice for justice, equality, and progress in the California State Legislature. Over the past two years, the Jewish Caucus has secured nearly $250 million to fund top Jewish community priorities, and championed legislation to address top Jewish community priorities such as hate crimes, anti-Semitism, community security, and Holocaust education.
