A Message from Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur on the Terrorist Attacks in Israel

I am horrified and heartbroken by the recent acts of terror against the people of Israel. The brutality the world has witnessed through shocking videos and firsthand reports is unbelievable. I stand with the Israeli people and the State of Israel, as well as the people across my district who are in so much pain at this time.

The cruelty of the massacre and kidnapping of Israelis, young festivalgoers, babies, children, parents and grandparents, including a Holocaust survivor in a wheelchair is beyond horrifying.

And it is shocking to me that as Israelis mourn and fear for their loved ones still held captive, rallies to celebrate these barbaric acts have been held around our nation and state.

Let's be clear: Hamas terrorists are not freedom fighters, resistance soldiers, or revolutionaries. These are ISIS-style terrorists who are intent upon the destruction of the Jewish State and the murder of Jewish people.

To those who apologize or condone these heinous terror attacks on innocent Israelis, it's time to look inward and reevaluate.

Israel was founded as a refuge for Jewish people to be "a free people in our land," free from the kind of heartbreaking inhumanity we see right now.

As a proud member of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, I stand firmly and unequivocally with Israel and its right to defend itself. My heart is with the families, in our district and Israel, whose loved ones have been killed, injured, or captured in this heartbreaking attack. May our prayers be for the safe return of those held hostage, healing and strength for the maimed, and justice for the lives lost.
