Assemblywoman Carrillo Champions Parks Access to Create Greater Outdoor Experiences Across California
SACRAMENTO, CA — Parks access legislation authored by California State Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) to bolster outdoor experiences was signed into law this week by Governor Jerry Brown. The passage of AB 2615 rounds out the previously signed AB 2745 in Assemblywoman Carrillo’s package of bills that emphasize safe and enhanced parks access.
AB 2615 requires the California Department of Transportation to work with state and local agencies to provide safe parks access for all Californians. To supplement the benefits of AB 2615, AB 2745 allows California State Parks to sell merchandise and goods directly to visitors, improving park experiences.
“Our state parks belong to all Californians and these bills will enhance the experience for visitors by developing new access points and allow more innovative ways to generate revenue for investment in our state’s parks system,” Department of Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Mangat said. “We are grateful to Assemblywoman Carrillo for championing ways to make California’s State Parks stronger for all Californians and future generations.”
“I am proud to author a suite of bills that address access to the beauty of our state parks and beaches for all Californians,” Assemblywoman Carrillo said. “Our parks are the fountainhead of rich history and culture in California, and surround the areas where many people live, work and learn. As a member of the State Assembly and the Water, Wildlife and Parks committee, I am committed to enhancing and expanding access to open and green spaces across our state.”
Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo was elected to the 51st Assembly District in December of 2017. She is a member of the Rules, Appropriations, Public Safety, Health and Water Parks & Wildlife Committees. Carrillo represents the people of East Los Angeles, Northeast Los Angeles, and the neighborhoods of El Sereno, Echo Park, Lincoln Heights, Chinatown and parts of Silver Lake.
